As we celebrate Volunteer Week (Monday 2nd to Sunday 8th June) we want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate every single person who gives their time, energy, and compassion to support our work at Carer Support Dorset.

Volunteers are the beating heart of our charity – without them, we simply couldn’t do what we do. Whether you’ve given an hour, a day, or a year of your time, your contribution is deeply appreciated and has made a real difference in the lives of unpaid carers across Dorset.

Carer Support Dorset exists to support unpaid carers, who often juggle intense responsibilities with little recognition, and our mission is to make sure they feel seen, supported, and valued. Volunteers play a vital role in this mission. From helping at one off events, making Here to Talk calls, raising awareness in local communities, running our invaluable peer-support groups, or offering specialist expertise as trustees – every volunteer brings something unique and incredibly valuable to our organisation.

We want to say a sincere and resounding thank you. Your generosity in giving your time and skills has helped us reach more people, provide better services, and create a stronger, more caring community for unpaid carers around our county.

Volunteering is not just a wonderful thing for those who receive the support, but also for those who give it! We often hear from our volunteers how rewarding the experience is, how it gives them a sense of purpose, and how it’s helped them to meet new people, form friendships, and feel a part of something bigger. It’s also a great opportunity to develop new skills and gain confidence!

At Carer Support Dorset, we’re so proud to offer volunteering roles that are flexible, supportive, and designed to suit a wide range of interests, skillsets and availabilities. Whether you can offer regular time or occasional help, every single hour makes a difference!

This Volunteer Week, we’d also like to take the opportunity to introduce our vacancy for charity Trustees! Read all about this prestigious volunteer position below, and if you are interested in knowing more simply get in touch!

We’re on the lookout for enthusiastic Trustees who are passionate about supporting unpaid carers in Dorset and Wiltshire, to help shape the future of our charity! As a trustee, you’ll steer our strategic direction, work closely with our senior leadership team, and ensure we’re making a real difference. We’d especially love to hear from you if you have expertise in health and social care, income generation, marketing and communications, and volunteer management – though this isn’t an exhaustive list!

Some of the key responsibilities of a Trustee include:

  • Set and monitor our goals and strategic plans
  • Ensure we comply with all legal and regulatory standards
  • Safeguard the charity’s finances and prevent fraud
  • Attend approximately 4 board meetings a year

If you’re passionate and ready to contribute, we want to hear from you! Please note before applying that this is an unpaid position.
