According to research published by Carers UK in 2019, unpaid carers are seven times more likely than the general population to experience loneliness. Considering 1 in 3 of us will care for a loved one at some point in our lives, Carer Support Dorset are on a mission to eradicate isolation in the unpaid carers we support.
Whether you are caring for your partner, parent, sibling, child or a friend you deserve to feel recognised and supported through your time as a carer. That is why we believe that peer support is not just a helpful tool for people – it is an essential part of the support needed to live a fulfilling life.
Connecting with others who understand the struggles and joys of being a carer for a loved one can be life changing. Trying to explain your day to day with someone who just doesn’t understand can be exhausting and infuriating, but when you talk to a fellow unpaid carer you will be met with not just support, but understanding as well.
Sharing your experiences can help build bridges that reduce isolation, boost confidence, and offer practical advice that only fellow carers can provide. With a peer support group, you don’t have to explain what it’s like to navigate care plans, juggle appointments, or feel emotionally exhausted – others who walk the same path simply ‘get it’.
We’re incredibly proud to offer a wide range of peer-centred services and safe spaces where unpaid carers in Dorset can come together to get support, have a hot drink and a good natter.
