‘My journey with caring has spanned many perspectives. Living with a chronic illness for over 20 years meant my daughter became my young carer from the age of seven. During this time, I also spent many years caring for my elderly mum whilst juggling my own health needs and family responsibilities.

This experience has taught me that caring relationships are complex and multifaceted. Sometimes we’re the one providing care, sometimes we’re receiving it, and often we’re doing both simultaneously. I understand the guilt that can come with needing help, the exhaustion of providing care, and the financial pressures that caring responsibilities can bring.

What I’ve learnt through my journey is that reaching out for support takes courage, not weakness. Whether you’re a young carer trying to balance school and home responsibilities, a parent managing your own health whilst supporting family members, or someone navigating the benefits system whilst caring for others, you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

I’m passionate about supporting carers because I know first-hand how isolating and overwhelming it can feel. The practical challenges around money, benefits, and accessing support can seem insurmountable, especially when you’re already stretched thin.

At Carer Support Wiltshire, I’m here to listen without judgment and help you find practical solutions that work for your unique situation. Whether that’s understanding what financial support you might be entitled to, finding respite care options, or simply having someone who truly understands what you’re going through.

My advice? Start small. One phone call, one email, one conversation can open doors you didn’t know existed. Every carer deserves support, and that includes you.’
