We have been aware of a scam that has taken place at a Local Authority whereby one of its residents received a telephone call over the Christmas period from a fraudster alleging to be from the Council’s Carer’s Team.
The fraudster told the male resident that if he made a payment of £200 a Carer’s Assessment and other paperwork could be completed over the telephone to enable him to be receiving benefits of up to £250 per week.
Fortunately the resident was sufficiently fraud aware and reported the matter to the Carer’s Support Team.
Just a reminder don’t disclose your bank details to anyone you are unsure about. Any attempts to defraud residents of money should be reported to Dorset Council who should then inform www.actionfraud.police.uk.
