Young Carer Coordinator
We are a local charity supporting unpaid carers across Dorset who are caring for a relative, friend or neighbour who have an illness or disability.
Position: Young Carer Coordinator
Salary: £24,313 – £25,295
Hours: 37 hours a week including occasional weekend/evening
Benefits: 28 days’ holiday in addition to bank holidays, 5% employer contribution to pension, free annual eye tests.
About the Role:
Carer Support Dorset was commissioned by Dorset Council and CCG as the Lead Carer Organisation and was launched in November 2019. We are now looking for a Young Carer Coordinator. This is a new role to extend our work with schools and colleges to help them identify young carers and offer early support, to increase young carer awareness and improve access for support.
You will work with colleagues and volunteers to promote awareness of young carers. In addition to this, you will work in partnership with the Dorset Council Young Carers Team, Family Partnership Zones and other services to increase the offer to young carers across Dorset.
Your role will include giving carer awareness sessions in schools, colleges and other organisations, and developing links within the community. As Carer Support Dorset grows, there will be opportunities to develop other areas of work, including facilitating group sessions (both face to face and virtual) as well as working with young carers to ensure that their voices are heard throughout the County.
At present this post is based at home but will move to attending an office, currently in Ferndown, for at least part of the week.
As Young Carer Coordinator, you will have a positive attitude, confidence and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team. Other essential skills and experience include:
- Experience of working with schools/colleges
- Experience of working directly with children and young people
- Experience of speaking to groups of people
- Experience working with safeguarding policies and procedures
- Excellent written communication skills
- Able to communicate and positively challenge other professionals both within the work place and externally
- Able to communicate effectively with diverse members of the public
- Able to use IT and databases to: manage time effectively, prioritise cases, record information gathered through assessments
Due to the nature of this role, it is essential that the successful candidate is able to work flexibly and has a full driving license, with access to a car for work purposes. We are looking for the right candidate to start in January 2021. All successful candidates will be subject to Safeguarding checks along with other relevant employment checks.
