Community Engagement Officer

We are a local charity supporting unpaid carers across Dorset who are caring for a relative, friend or neighbour who has an illness or disability.

Vacancy: Community Engagement Officer

Location: Dorset

Salary:   £23,541 Per Annum, Pro Rata

Hours: 26 hours a week including occasional weekend/evening

Benefits: 28 days’ holiday pro rata in addition to bank holidays, 5% employer contribution to pension, free annual eye tests.

About this New Role:

Carer Support Dorset was commissioned by Dorset Council as the Lead Carer Organisation and was launched in November 2019. We are seeking to employ a proactive and motivated Community Engagement Officer who will strengthen our relationships with organisations across Dorset. You will be working as part of a team and proactively engaging with organisations to create clear referral and signposting pathways to and from services.

Your role will also include delivering carer awareness sessions to other organisations and developing strong links within the community.

This post is home-based, with extensive travel across Dorset in order to meet the needs of the service.

 About You:

As Community Engagement Officer, you will have a positive attitude, confidence, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team. Other essential skills and experience include:

  • Experience of previous community engagement work
  • An understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of carers’ issues and rights
  • Multiagency working, including liaising with other agencies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of IT and databases to manage time effectively, prioritise workload and record information

Due to the nature of this role, it is essential that the successful candidate has a full driving licence, with access to a car for work purposes.

About the Role:

Carer Support Dorset was commissioned by Dorset Council as the Lead Carer Organisation and was launched in November 2019. We are seeking to employ one Carer Adviser who will be the first point of contact to carers in Dorset. You will be working in a team, answering queries from carers of all ages by phone or email, and registering them on the Dorset Carers Register. You will offer information, advice and guidance, and signpost and refer carers on where necessary, including for Care Act Carers Assessments.

Your role will also include delivering carer awareness sessions to other organisations and developing links within the community. You will be expected to facilitate groups (both face-to-face and virtual) as well as work with carers to ensure that their voices are heard throughout the County.

This post is office-based in Ferndown, with travel across Dorset to meet the needs of the service.

About You:

  • Experience of offering information, advice and guidance to people both by phone and face to face
  • Experience of speaking to groups of people
  • An understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of IT and databases to manage time effectively, prioritise cases, record information gathered through assessments
  • Due to the nature of this role, it is essential that the successful candidate has a full driving licence, with access to a car for work purposes.
